If you have chosen this amazing Island for your holidays, you’ve probably recognized yourself in the description above.
Awarded as the most beautiful island of the world by the American magazine Trend & Leisure, Milos is very popular for the breath-taking beauty of its beaches and cliffs, for the Caribbean style bays, so quiet and secluded, for the multicolored villages of fishermen, for its millenary culture, the mysterious archaeological sites and, of course, for the amazing green and blue shades of the Aegean sea.
The history of Milos has its roots in the mists of time.
Recent studies have shown that the island was populated more than 8000 years before Christ, thanks to its strategic location between Greece and Crete island, to the richness of the obsidian deposits and the protection of its natural harbour.
At the beginning was the Phoenician to establish on its coasts, but the greater splendor was reached under the Dorians domination. They built the amazing city of Klima, rich in magnificent palaces and fortifications, aqueducts, theaters, schools and markets.
Milos experienced a long period of peace and prosperity until the nel 426 a.C., when the island was kept under siege from the Athenian.
Men were killed, women and the children enslaved. The few who survived managed to return to Milos only many years later, at the end of Peloponnesian war, won by the Spartan.
Just like all the Cyclades islands, after 311 a.C Milos was invaded first by the Macedonian and then by many other populations like the Antigonids, the Ptolemaic Egyptians, the Romans and the Byzantine.
Subsequently, the island fell into the hands of Pirates. Redbeard in person conquered the island in the name of the Ottoman Empire.
In 1830, Milos became part of Greece. Nowadays, it is considered as one of the pearls of the whole Aegean sea.
